JSON All-in-One vs JSON Formatter

Need more than a formatted API response? JSON Formatter is a focused way to read one. JSON All-in-One is for the next steps: edit, query, compare, and export in a browser workspace.

This comparison is written by JSON All-in-One. Capability descriptions come from each publisher's store listing; "not documented" does not mean "unavailable." The separate browser benchmark below tests specific delivered versions and one generated JSON workload, not every feature or file shape.

Quick decision

Stay with JSON Formatter if...

You mainly want JSON responses auto-formatted with syntax highlighting, collapsible trees, dark mode, and a raw/parsed toggle. Those are the jobs its publisher emphasizes.

Choose JSON All-in-One if...

You regularly move from inspection into an edited document, a JQ transformation, a file comparison, or a specific export. The extra workspace matters only if you use those steps.

Documented capabilities, by task

Query or reshapeLocal JQ and JSONPath workflowsListing documents window.json for DevTools exploration; built-in JQ is not documented

What the large-file test actually showed

For a deterministic 1 GB JSON array served over local HTTP, JSON All-in-One 1.0.9 completed ingestion and a nested expand/collapse interaction in 3/3 attempts. JSON Formatter 0.10.2 crashed in both attempts. At 300 MB, Formatter left the response as raw text after its own size check; this is different from a crash. We did not diagnose the 1 GB crashes as OOM, test arbitrary files, or benchmark JQ and export. Read the full method and all outcomes.

Try one API-response task

Use the same small source in either extension. First inspect ord_1 and ord_2; then, in JSON All-in-One, run the JQ expression to keep paid orders and review the result. If reading the two records is all you need, JSON Formatter already addresses that task. This is a reproducible JSON All-in-One example, not a claim that the competitor fails it.

Source / orders.json
[
  {"id":"ord_1","status":"paid","total":18},
  {"id":"ord_2","status":"draft","total":7}
]
JQ / run against the array
map(select(.status == "paid") | {id, total})
Result / one paid order
[
  {"id":"ord_1","total":18}
]

Next, change a total in a copy, compare the documents, and export only after checking the result shape. The JSON comparison guide and CSV guide show those distinct steps.

Precision, price, and permissions

The Formatter repository warns that its native JSON parsing can affect numeric precision while the raw view retains the source representation. JSON All-in-One also separates source-token inspection from downstream JQ arithmetic and export. Test a number such as 9007199254740993 at each step rather than assuming either product is universally lossless. Reproduce the JavaScript boundary.

JSON All-in-One's full feature set is available for free, with an optional license to remove reminders. Formatter's store page is the source for its current terms and permissions; this page does not infer its network behavior or installed permission set. Direct local-file navigation in JSON All-in-One requires the browser's file URL access switch.

Sources and limits

Competitor listing reviewed on October 8, 2026 (JSON Formatter, version 0.10.2 as displayed). Store descriptions are publisher claims and can change. The separate browser benchmark used Chrome Web Store-delivered packages loaded unpacked with unchanged runtime files in fresh Chrome for Testing profiles. It measured one deterministic large-file viewing task and a separate number-display fixture; it did not audit security or establish general performance rankings.
